Food and Entertainment in Nerja
FOOD AND ENTERTAINMENT IN NERJA
There is plenty of nightlife in Nerja, but not as wild and raucous as many resorts along the coast. Clubs and discos tend not to open until late, but then stay open until the early hours. There are wall to wall establishments in the Antonio Millon and adjacent Plaza Tutti Frutti area of town. The energetic can dance the night away to their hearts content.
Flamenco shows are also very popular, as you might imagine.
Nerja has a wide variety of places to eat, embracing cuisine from all over the world.
Why not try a local Andalucia Tapas Bar? They Offer a Wide Variety of Amazing Food and Incredible Value For Your Money
Costa del Sol holidays are a great way to relax, have fun and experience nature in all of its most beautiful forms. Even in the coldest months, it rarely gets below 18 degrees Celsius there. In addition, there is a wide variety of beautiful beaches, lots of plants and wildlife, and plenty of things to do. There are many wonderful cities along this coastline, and one of them is a small tourist resort known as Nerja. One of the best things about Nerja is that its original atmosphere has been preserved. Local building codes have kept out high-rise developments, so it still feels like a small fishing village in many ways. Nerja Hotels blend in with the town, retaining a wonderful atmosphere. The old part of town contains whitewashed houses and cobbled streets, and the people are friendly and welcoming. However, you can not experience this environment if you spend all of your time in Nerja hotels and Nerja apartments. You have to get out among the people, eat their food, and take part in their culture. One great way to do this is to visit Andalucian tapas bars. INTRODUCTION TO TAPAS Tapas are small servings of food that are generally eaten with wine or beer. They can be either hot or cold, and they are usually eaten before lunch or dinner. They were invented in Andalucia as a way of attracting people into bars, and they have since become a way of life there. Tapas are both practical and fun; they keep the people from getting hungry while waiting for lunch and dinner, both of which are quite late, and yet they are a social experience as much as a snack. Rarely will you find people "taking tapas" alone, and talking and laughter are an integral part of the ritual. Most of the locals take their tapas at 1:00 and again at around 8:00, but cold tapas are available in the tapas bars for most of the day. ADVANTAGES OF TAPAS BARS Many people spend their Nerja holidays eating fast food and hotel fare. This type of food is expensive and boring, however, and the only people you are likely to meet while eating it are other tourists. Tapas bars, on the other hand, allow you to experience some truly remarkable cuisine and get to know the locals. Some benefits of tapas bars include: ∙Amazing food Tapas are the best way to sample authentic Andalucian cuisine. They are anything but your typical tourist food; they offer a deliciously exotic combination of flavors unlike anything you could find at Nerja hotels or make for yourself during Nerja self catering holidays. Because there are so many tapas bars in Nerja all competing with each other to make the best food, you can expect to be served something wonderful. In addition, tapas bars are the best place to get fantastic wine. ∙Great variety No two tapas bars serve exactly the same thing. Some of them automatically bring you your tapas without giving you a choice, and others allow you to order what you want. Either way, two different tapas dishes are likely to be wildly different from each other. Because you are only given small portions, you can sample many. ∙Incredible prices You will not find a better value for your money than what you can get at tapas bars in Nerja. A lot of them serve you free tapas with every drink, and those that do charge give them to you for very cheap; you can often get both a drink and a tapa for €1 or €1.50. Several tapas can easily be enough for a meal, but if you want a larger portion you can order a "racion" (serving) or "half-racion" (half-serving). These larger servings do cost an additional amount, but it is usually very reasonable. ∙Wonderful atmosphere Some tapas bars are lively and others are more relaxed, but all of them are friendly and welcoming. In addition, you often receive great entertainment along with the food. What you get depends on the bar that you are at, but some of them have music or live entertainment and others have a large television where you can watch sports. TIPS FOR EATING AT TAPAS BARS Tapas bars are a lot different than restaurants, so it is important to be aware of their idiosyncrasies if you want to get the most out of your tapas bar experience. ∙At most tapas bars, you only get free tapas if you stand or sit at the bar. Tables in the dining room or outside are generally reserved for guests who order a meal. ∙The best tapas bars, with the most authentic cuisine and the cheapest prices, are in the old part of town. Also, if you want the best value for your money, watch where the Spanish workmen go. ∙Not all tapas bars give you free tapas, so make sure that you inquire. In addition, don't be afraid to ask for your tapas if they are not offered to you. ∙Because tapas are so different from bar to bar, you should visit several. Order one drink and a tapa at each one, and have everyone in your party order something different (if you are given a choice) so you can sample as many dishes as possible. ∙At many tapas bars, the only tapas on display are the cold ones. Hot tapas are usually only available from about 1:00 to 3:00 in the afternoon and again from 7 to about 10 or 11 in the evening. If you want hot tapas, ask what they have "from the kitchen." TAPAS BAR RECOMMENDATIONS It would be difficult to find a bad tapas bar in Nerja, but the following are some great places to start. ∙La Piqueta This bar is one of the few places in Nerja where you can sit outside and still get free tapas. ∙Meson La Posada Iberico This is a cozy bar in the heart of Nerja where you can choose your tapas. ∙La Puntilla This bar is very popular with the locals, so it is a great place to become immersed in the atmosphere of the town. ∙La Taberna At this bar, they serve some of the largest tapas you can get anywhere in Nerja. ∙El Pulguilla This bar serves some of the best fish and seafood in Nerja, and it also has a full-service restaurant in the back.
You won't be bored or hungry on your Nerja Holiday, we promise.
